A Turkish Airlines long-haul service TK75 from Istanbul to Vancouver was forced to divert to Vienna on February 26, 2026, after the crew declared a general emergency mid-flight.
The aircraft had departed Istanbul Airport en route to Vancouver when the issue arose approximately two hours into the journey, while the aircraft was cruising over Europe. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 777-300ER with tail number TC-LJJ.
According to flight-tracking data, the crew squawked 7700 — the universal signal for a general emergency — and requested priority handling from air traffic control. Controllers subsequently cleared nearby traffic and coordinated a diversion to Vienna International Airport, a major European hub equipped to handle a fully loaded wide-body aircraft.
The aircraft conducted a controlled descent and landed safely in Vienna under emergency procedures. Airport fire, medical and emergency response teams were positioned as a precaution. Initial reports indicated that there were no immediate injuries among passengers or crew.
At the time of publication, Turkish Airlines had not disclosed the specific nature of the in-flight emergency. Austrian authorities were continuing to assess the circumstances surrounding the diversion.
