On 2 January, a Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300 (TC-JNI) operated flight TK45 between Cape Town, South Africa and Istanbul, Turkey. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft entered a holding pattern West from Cape Town after the pilots were unable to retract the landing gear.
Two hours after the holding – most likely to burn off additional fuel, the aircraft diverted to Johannesburg Airport for an uneventful landing. As a precaution, emergency services awaited the aircraft at the airport of Johannesburg.
