Two American tourists claim they accidentally boarded a flight to Tunis, Tunisia, instead of “to Nice”, turning what should have been a short hop from Rome Fiumicino to the French Riviera into a journey across the Mediterranean.
In their TikTok video, the two tourists can be seen laughing out loud when told by a fellow passenger that the plane is bound for Tunis, not Nice. Yet, in a follow-up clip, one of them dramatically called it “the most horrible experience of my life.”
According to their explanation, an airline employee misunderstood their request for a ticket “to Nice” and issued them seats for “Tunis” instead. With boarding passes matching their names, they were allowed to board without issue.
Yet, aviation observers and many viewers online remain sceptical. Boarding passes, gate displays, and in-flight announcements all clearly state the destination. How two travellers missed every single indication is difficult to explain.
Some see the episode less as a travel disaster and more as a social-media performance. The timing, the dramatic storytelling, and the polished TikTok edits suggest the “mistake” may have been at least partly staged to draw attention.
Regardless of whether it was genuine confusion or content creation, the clip has certainly achieved its purpose: going viral.
