TUI fly has halted sales of “flight-only” tickets from Belgium to Tunisia, reportedly at the request of Tunisian authorities. The move has triggered strong criticism from the Vigilance Committee for Democracy in Tunisia (CVDTunisie), which warns of serious consequences for the Tunisian diaspora in Belgium.
The suspension restricts a popular travel option for Tunisians abroad, especially those returning for family visits in summer. Replacing it with flight-and-hotel packages is seen as unsuitable and financially burdensome.
CVDTunisie denounces the measure as discriminatory and damaging to both the social and economic ties between the diaspora and Tunisia. The organisation is calling for its immediate reversal, warning that the restriction risks alienating citizens abroad and weakening vital remittances to the Tunisian economy.
Neither TUI fly nor Tunisian authorities have publicly clarified the reasons behind the suspension.
TUI fly Belgium operates flights from Brussels to Djerba and Enfidha.
