TUI fly Belgium flight TB1711 operated by Boeing 787-8 OO-JDL left Brussels Airport this Wednesday morning at 09:59 (STD 09:30) with destination Lanzarote and Tenerife South.
One and a half hour into the flight, while flying over Madrid at FL400, the plane made a U-turn and returned to Brussels, where it landed at 12:15 local time (UTC+1).
The reason for the diversion is not known, as TUI fly did not yet answer our request for information. Apparently a technical problem, according to several concurring rumours.
UPDATE: OO-JDL took off again from Brussels Airport to Lanzarote and Tenerife South with the same flight number TB1711 at 16:01 (UTC+1). It arrived in Lanzarote at 18:40 (UTC), six hours late, and continued to Tenerife where the arrival time was 20:30.
UPDATE: The return flight TB1712 Tenerife- Brussels has been cancelled, according to the Brussels Airport website. Apparently, the technical problem which made the aircraft return to Brussels has reappeared! But Flightradar24 shows that OO-JDL has actually taken off to Brussels.
