TUI fly Belgium flight TB2031 from Brussels Airport to Boa Vista and Sal, Cape Verde, operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered OO-TMZ, made an emergency landing in Gran Canaria on Saturday morning after a hydraulic pump failure caused fluid to leak into an engine.
TUI spokesperson Piet Demeyere said to newspaper HLN that the landing in Las Palmas was a precautionary measure, stressing that safety is the airline’s top priority. Technical teams carried out a thorough inspection and repairs, confirming the aircraft was safe to continue its journey.
After the issue was resolved, the plane was cleared to depart again at 13:50 (UTC+1) the same afternoon for its onward flight to Cape Verde. It landed in Espargos, Sal, at 15:09 (UTC) rather than first at Boa Vista as initially scheduled. After a little more than one hour on the ground, it continued to Boa Vista.
At the time of writing, the Boeing is over the Atlantic Ocean en route to Brussels.
