TUI Group has named its latest Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft (G-TUMX) “Kuusamo” during a ceremony held on 22 February at Kuusamo Airport, marking the fourth aircraft in its fleet to carry the name of a Finnish travel destination.
The initiative underscores TUI’s strong footprint in Finnish winter tourism. According to Finavia, the airline will transport more than 60,000 travellers to Northern Finland this winter season, primarily from the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium. Kuusamo remains one of TUI’s core winter destinations and has experienced sustained tourism growth, with the current season described as record-breaking.
TUI’s fleet already features aircraft named after other Lapland destinations—Kittilä, Rovaniemi and Ivalo—reinforcing its long-term partnership with Finnish regions.
The airline stated that naming aircraft after partner destinations serves as a tribute to local communities, positioning each aircraft as a “flying ambassador” that symbolises collaboration and shared growth in tourism.
