Thomas Cook Airlines Group is setting up a new airline in Palma de Mallorca. The first three aircraft will come from Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium

In addition to Thomas Cook Group Airlines in Germany, UK and Scandinavia, the airline has applied for another Airline Operators Certificate (AOC) for Mallorca. The new airline, Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics, will carry out flights for the Thomas Cook Group Airlines from spring 2018.

The new airline is part of the growth strategy of Thomas Cook Group Airlines. With the new European base, in the most important market of Thomas Cook, the Spanish airline offers additional capacity for Group Airlines according to seasonal demand. The Mallorca location provides the company with greater operational flexibility and competitive cost structures. This can improve the quality and customer experience compared to sub-charter offers.

At the start, at least three Airbus A320s will be used for the new airline that are currently flying for Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium. The aircraft will initially carry out short- and medium-range flights for Condor, replacing some of the sub-charter used to date.

With our new airline, we are able to counter seasonal fluctuations, plan more cheaply and offer our customers even more destinations in the course of our growth,” said Christoph Debus, Chief Airline Officer Thomas Cook Group plc. “With one million passengers this is our most popular destination, where we can rely on a well-developed infrastructure.

The announcement of the new airline completes the recently concluded agreement with the Canadian airline Air Transat for the seasonal exchange of aircraft. The complementary demand on the North American and the European market allows for an ideal exchange of fleets for both airlines.
