The Thai national carrier Thai Airways has asked its suppliers to delay the delivery of 14 new long-haul aircraft by one to two years. It involves twelve Airbus A350-900s and two Boeing 787-9s.
Thai Airways wants to reduce internal costs before proceeding with the purchase of new aircraft.
The airline is negotiating with suppliers about delaying deliveries until 2018, reports Reuters, based on statements by Thai Airways president Charumporn Jotikasthira.
One of the measures taken by Thai is selling property, among others nineteen offices in Thailand and abroad. Thai also wants to sell some aircraft.
Thai has ordered fourteen Airbus A350-900s. It also has four Boeing 787-9s booked at leasing company ILFC. Thai Airways has already six Boeing 787-8s in use.
