For the first time in its history, the Airline takes international experts and journalists on a discovery tour of the main wine producing regions of Portugal

Starting Tuesday 14 November, and for three days, TAP takes more than 60 guests from all over the world to visit the main wine regions of Portugal, aboard a TAP Express ATR of the National Airline’s regional fleet. In its first wine tour, TAP reinforces its core role of ambassador and promoter of the country, showing what Portugal does best, not only in relation to wines but also in terms of the gastronomy and landscape of the various Portuguese regions.

Tejo and Alentejo are the first regions to be visited on this tour, which will then move to the Dão and Douro regions on Wednesday, and end on Thursday with a visit to the Minho region and the port cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. The schedule will include tastings, visits to producers and direct contact with numerous national winemakers.

The panel of guests includes more than 30 journalists from some of the most important international media. The United States and Brazil, strategic markets for TAP and Portuguese wines, are the most represented. There are also professionals from Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. TAP also invited close on 20 journalists from the main national media to participate in this experience, as well as customers and partners of the Airline, wine producers, specialists and personalities of the wine world.

The chefs Henrique Sá Pessoa, José Avillez, Miguel Laffan, Rui Paula and Rui Silvestre, distinguished with Michelin stars, and chef Vítor Sobral, gastronomic consultant of TAP, will also be present at this initiative and will provide various gastronomic experiences to the participants over the three days of the tour.

The “TAP Wine Tour” will culminate in the “TAP Awards” event, which will take place in the cellars of Real Companhia Velha, in Vila Nova de Gaia, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, 16 November. TAP’s new wine list will be announced during the ceremony. Hence, the wines that will be served on board in 2018 will finally be revealed, both in Executive Class and in Economy Class. In this way, the National Airline completes another stage of the “TAP Wine Experience” initiative, which aims to transform TAP into the world’s largest channel for publicising and tasting Portuguese wines. At the same time, the Airline’s passengers will also be able to enjoy a unique service at all stages of the journey, both in terms of information and tasting, from the moment they book their ticket to after they disembark the aircraft.
