TAP has passed the one million mark in the number of passengers carried on its Ponte Aérea shuttle service between Porto and Lisbon. The one-millionth passenger was surprised with a free trip for two that was presented to him by Rosa Mota as soon as he landed in Porto.
A frequent user of TAP’s air shuttle and other routes operated by the airline, this Porto resident boarded the plane to Porto in Lisbon at 4:00 pm without knowing that his trip would make history. He was identified by the flight crew when he was already aboard TAP Express flight TP1960. On arrival in Porto, he was greeted by Olympic marathon champion Rosa Mota, TAP’s ambassador in the city of Porto, who awarded the passenger with a trip for two to a destination of his choice on board the national airline.
In anticipation of this celebration, TAP also handed out pastéis de nata (custard-filled pastries) to shuttle passengers at the boarding gate as they left Lisbon. This initiative was undertaken in partnership with Fábrica da Nata, which recently inaugurated its first shop in downtown Porto.
This year alone, TAP had already carried over 650,000 passengers to Porto by September. Of these, 9% (57,000 passengers) bought their tickets in Brazil and 4.5% (28,000 passengers) bought them in the United States. The airline’s aim is to continue to contribute towards increasing the number of tourists to the area and, thus, play a part in the development of the local economy.
In the first half of 2017, TAP was the leader in terms of volume of flights at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. Between January and August, the number of passengers at the airport increased 16.7% over the same period last year. Today marks the first million passengers flown on the shuttle that links Porto to Lisbon with 18 flights per day, a service that began operating on 27 March 2016.
