TAP Air Portugal has unveiled a significant expansion of its operations at Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, combining new intercontinental routes with a strategic investment in maintenance infrastructure that will create around 200 highly qualified jobs.
During the upcoming winter season, TAP will operate 135 weekly direct flights from Porto, including 13 weekly intercontinental services to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, New York and Luanda. From 1 July, new routes to Terceira and Praia (Cape Verde) will launch with three weekly flights each. In addition, the Porto–Boston route will become year-round from next winter, ending its seasonal status, while four weekly flights to Tel Aviv will also be introduced.
Looking ahead, TAP confirmed plans to add further long-haul destinations and increase frequencies on existing routes as part of its three-year strategic plan.
Alongside network growth, TAP will invest in a new Maintenance and Engineering Hub at Porto Airport, scheduled for completion in 2028. The facility will be capable of accommodating two A321 aircraft (or similar) and will allow the airline to internalise major fleet inspections, improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. The project represents a major step in strengthening Porto’s role within TAP’s operational footprint.
TAP CEO Luís Rodrigues described the announcement as “a new moment for TAP and for Northern Portugal,” highlighting the airline’s reinforced commitment to intercontinental connectivity and regional economic development.
Thierry Ligonnière, CEO of ANA | VINCI Airports, said the agreement underlines a shared commitment to the future of Porto Airport, citing continued investments in infrastructure, including a €50 million runway refurbishment, to support long-term growth and global connectivity.
