TAP celebrates 10th anniversary of Lisbon – Brasilia flights

Share

This summer TAP is celebrating 10 years of direct flights between Lisbon and Brasilia. Currently with six flights a week at peak times, as Brasilia is the capital of Brazil, its connection with Portugal and Europe, via Lisbon is of huge strategic importance to the airline. Flights to Brasilia depart from Lisbon at 09:35 and return at 16:55, local times, every day except Friday.

In 2007, the first year of operation, 45,000 passengers flew between Lisbon and Brasilia. This year close to 60,000 have flown the route in the first half of the year alone.

In spite of a slight reduction in supply compared to previous years, around four percent growth in the number of passengers travelling resulted in a 9.45 point improvement in terms of load factor.

TAP currently flies to 10 destinations in Brazil to a total of 73 frequencies per week, six of which are to Brasilia. In 2016, there were five flights, meaning that this year there has been a 20 percent increase in availability to this destination and an overall nine percent rise in flights to Brazil.

TAP passengers from Brasilia also enjoy the advantages that the Lisbon Hub has to offer, as an excellent staging point between Brazil and Europe. The favourite destinations in these cases are Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Milan and Madrid.

Under the Portugal Stopover Programme, passengers with layovers in Lisbon or Porto can stay for up to five nights at no extra cost. The Brazilian market represents around 35 percent of total bookings, 11 percent of which are from Brasilia.

Since it began in the summer of 2016 to the end of July this year, Portugal Stopover has brought to Portugal almost 70,000 new tourists. American Condé Nast Traveler has voted it the best stopover programme in the world.
