Launched by the Portuguese national airline last July, this program has proven to be very popular, especially in the North American and Brazilian markets. “Portugal Stopover” has already achieved 20,000 customers who decided to make a one to three day short break to discover Portugal on their way to another European destination, with no further travel costs and taking advantage of the benefits the program offers.
To design such a program and offer customers the possibility to discover Portugal, TAP has partnered with a network of more than 150 partners, therefore providing customers with exclusive benefits, such as special prices in hotels, the offer of a bottle of Portuguese wine in restaurants and free experiences, in particular tuk-tuk rides, museums visits, dolphin watching on the River Sado and different tastings.
Condé Nast Traveler magazine also highlighted the convenience of TAP flights to US passengers due to the code-share agreement between TAP and the North American airline JetBlue, thus making it easy for travellers to depart from any destination of JetBlue’s domestic network to any of the destinations served by TAP in the USA (Boston, New York – Newark and JFK, or Miami). In the opposite direction, TAP European customers wishing to travel to the USA with the company can also choose to discover Portugal on the same trip, thus enjoying of the same benefits of TAP Stopover program before departing to the USA.
TAP app for mobile devices was also highlighted by Condé Nast Traveler, created as a “virtual tour guide” for Stopover customers. This app, available through the Apple Store or Google Play, gives the passenger a virtual Stopover identification card which can be presented to the partners so that the stopover customers can benefit from the exclusive advantages of the program. It also functions as a travel guide with recommendations and suggestions, and allows customer to share their experiences on social networks, encouraging their friends and families to visit Portugal.
TAP Stopover can be accessed through the flight search engine at TAP website http://www.flytap.com/Portugal/pt/stopover and be selected when booking a TAP long-haul flight.
