TAP Air Portugal has officially inaugurated its new direct service between Lisbon and Los Angeles, bringing Portugal and the heart of Southern California closer than ever. The first flight took off on 16 May and is operated by an Airbus A330-900, which offers 298 seats across three cabin classes.
The new route operates three times a week—on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—and will expand to four weekly flights from 26 May, with the addition of a Saturday departure. Flights leave Lisbon at 09:55 and arrive in Los Angeles at 14:40 local time, with a flight time of 12 hours and 45 minutes. The return leg departs LAX at 16:40 and lands in Lisbon at 12:00 the next day, after 11 hours and 20 minutes in the air. Round-trip fares start at €679.
To mark the occasion, TAP has launched a special competition titled “The Next Portuguese in Hollywood”, in collaboration with Portuguese actor José Condessa. Through this social media-driven campaign, participants are invited to recreate a scene from their favorite movie or TV series. The winning entry will receive a round-trip for two to Los Angeles and two tickets to visit Paramount Studios.
With the addition of Los Angeles, TAP now offers nonstop service from Lisbon to eight destinations across the United States: New York (JFK), Newark, Boston, Miami, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Chicago, and now L.A. The airline also connects Porto with Newark and, as of this week, Boston.
In a further boost to transatlantic connectivity, TAP will introduce a new stopover in Terceira (Azores) on its weekly Tuesday flight between Lisbon and San Francisco starting 3 June. This initiative aims to better serve the large Azorean diaspora living in California by offering a direct link between the Azores and the U.S. West Coast.
