The first route between the two countries, launched in October 2008, offered six flights a week to Casablanca. During its first year of operation, TAP carried 17,000 passengers between Lisbon and Casablanca. Now offering one flight a day, in 2017 TAP carried 69,000 passengers on this route.
The company started offering flights between Lisbon and Marrakesh at the start of 2010, with three flights a week carrying 15,000 people during the first year of operation. In 2017, TAP carried 69,000 people on this route, which now has two flights each day.
The third route between the two countries, which launched in October 2013, was to Tangier. This is a seasonal service that only operates during the IATA summer season (March to October). During the high season, the Lisbon to Tangier route offers a daily flight. During its first full year, TAP carried 11,000 passengers on this route. During 2017 this number increased to 19,000.
Finally, at the end of last October, TAP started offering daily high season flights to Fez. Since the launch of this new route, until the end of March 2018 – just five months – the company has carried more than 12,000 passengers.
TAP Air Portugal, Be Live Hotels and the Morocco Tourism Office took chef Henrique Sá Pessoa to Marrakesh to prepare a Moroccan-inspired dish.
Henrique Sá Pessoa’s Be Touched event took place on 11 and 12 May at the 5-star Hotel Be Live Collection Adults Only and was attended by dozens of invited guests and Moroccan and Portuguese journalists.
Recognised as one of Portugal’s top haute cuisine chefs, and winner of a Michelin star at the Alma restaurant, Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, who is part of the TAP Taste the Stars project and who develops in-flight meals for the Portuguese airline, agreed to embark on this unique gastronomic journey.
Taste the Stars is yet another TAP commitment to promoting Portugal to the world. In partnership with some of Portugal’s top chefs, TAP, which is known as one of the country’s leading promoters and ambassadors of its tourist destinations, cuisine, wines, heritage, traditions and culture, is contributing to enhancing and promoting this valuable and unequalled heritage to the world.
Through the Taste the Stars project, chefs Henrique Sá Pessoa, José Avillez, Miguel Laffan, Rui Paula and Rui Silvestre are creating dishes for TAP passengers, discovering, promoting and encouraging new Portuguese culinary talent, reinventing the use of products from across Portugal in the in-flight meals, and are taking part in national and international events designed to promote Portuguese cuisine.
