Somon Air committed to place its largest-ever order, selecting up to 14 fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX aeroplanes.

Boeing and Somon Air, the national carrier of Tajikistan, have announced a commitment for up to 14 aircraft, marking the airline’s largest-ever fleet expansion. The agreement includes up to four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and up to ten 737-8s, aimed at modernising its all-Boeing 737 fleet and enabling long-haul growth.

The 787-9s will be Somon Air’s first widebody aircraft, allowing the airline to launch new intercontinental routes from Dushanbe. The 737-8s will strengthen its regional operations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, offering up to 25% greater fuel efficiency and lower operating costs.

“This significant investment reinforces our dedication to providing exceptional service and comfort to our passengers,” said Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air.

The announcement was made during the C5+1 Summit in Washington, D.C., marking the 10th anniversary of the diplomatic platform. Once finalised, the order will support over 11,000 U.S. jobs.

“Somon Air’s continued partnership with Boeing highlights their confidence in the performance and versatility of both the 787-9 and 737-8,” said Paul Righi, Boeing’s VP of Sales and Marketing for Eurasia and India.

Founded in 2008, Somon Air operates from Dushanbe International Airport to 25 destinations and is now preparing to enter the long-haul market with its first Dreamliners.
