After the bankruptcy of Darwin Airline, SkyWork Airlines has submitted a request to the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) to operate flights between Geneva and Lugano. A decision should be made early next year.

FOCA confirmed the application to operate the flights to SonntagsZeitung, according to a FOCA spokesman a consultation is underway between the cantons of Geneva and Ticino as well as with the two airport operators. SkyWork Airlines, which itself recently encountered financial problems announced last week to start offering flights from Lugano-Agno airport (LUG). The airline is discussing with the airport management and other stakeholders whether there is a need for such flights and their potential profitability, the airline CEO Martin Inäbnit said in a statement.

Darwin Airline, the Swiss regional airline with its head office in Bioggio, Lugano and flying under the brand name Adria Airways Switzerland has been declared bankrupt at the end of November. Since the collapse of Darwin Airline, Lugano Airport is looking for other airlines to offer flights between Geneva and Lugano.
