A massive winter storm forced a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 (registration 9V-SKL) to divert to Newburgh Stewart International Airport (SWF), a small airport in New York State, around 1 p.m. ET on Thursday 4 January after heavy winds and whiteout conditions closed runways at its intended destination: John F. Kennedy International Airport. Flight SQ26 was coming from Singapore via Frankfurt.
Passengers had to wait four hours before being allowed to disembark. They were later taken to New York by bus.
The plane continued to New York JFK the next day.
