Silver Airways ceases operations after bankruptcy deal falls through

Silver Airways has announced an immediate halt to all flight operations, following the collapse of its bankruptcy restructuring efforts. The regional U.S. airline, known for its routes across Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2024, but a proposed asset sale has now officially fallen through.

All scheduled flights have been canceled, and the airline is advising passengers not to go to the airport. Customers are urged to seek refunds through their original payment methods, such as credit card issuers or travel agencies.

While Silver Airways had hoped to continue operating under new ownership, a deal with an airline holding company ultimately collapsed. The unnamed buyer has opted not to continue operations, leading to the airline’s full shutdown. Silver’s fleet of ATR 42 and ATR 72 turboprop aircraft is now expected to be put up for sale.

The airline had already cut its fleet in half over recent months, in a bid to streamline operations and reduce costs during its bankruptcy proceedings.

At the time of the bankruptcy filing, Silver Airways employed approximately 646 people, in addition to 53 staff at its Puerto Rico-based affiliate, Seaborne Airlines. The fate of these employees remains uncertain following today’s announcement.

Founded in 2011, Silver Airways played a key role in serving rural and underserved airports across the southeastern U.S. and Caribbean. The airline also maintained code-share agreements with major carriers including JetBlue and United Airlines, offering feeder services to larger hub airports.

The abrupt shutdown has left many passengers stranded and scrambling for alternative travel arrangements. The airline’s website directs affected customers to initiate refund claims through their credit card companies or point-of-sale agencies.
