SAS Scandinavian Airlines has launched its 80th anniversary celebrations with a specially painted Airbus A330-300, highlighting eight decades of connecting Scandinavia with the world.
The milestone marks 80 years since the airline’s first intercontinental flight in 1946, when a Stockholm–New York route established a vital transatlantic link. Today, SAS operates a broad international network spanning Europe, North America and Asia, with Copenhagen serving as its primary global hub.
The newly unveiled aircraft features a distinctive all-blue livery, a first for the airline, alongside a redesigned Scandinavian flag motif inspired by its 1980s branding. An anniversary emblem, reflecting elements of the aircraft’s structure, further underlines the commemorative design.
The A330-300 is part of SAS’s long-haul fleet, which also includes the Airbus A350 and A321LR, supporting its intercontinental operations.
The aircraft is set to make its first flight between Copenhagen and New York, echoing the historic route that defined the airline’s early expansion and symbolising its enduring role in global connectivity.
