SAS Scandinavian Airlines has said it takes the matter “very seriously” after two separate incidents in which cabin crew members tested positive for alcohol while on duty within a little over a month.
According to reporting from DR.DK, and confirmations given by SAS to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet and news agency Ritzau, the first incident occurred in late February at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. In that case, a SAS flight attendant was found to have alcohol in their system while on duty.
A second case followed on 26 March at Copenhagen Airport, where another cabin crew member was detained after also testing positive for alcohol while working.
SAS press officer Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji stressed in a written statement to Aftonbladet that the airline maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol and drugs while on duty, adding that the company takes “what has happened very seriously.”
The airline also confirmed it will strengthen its preventive measures following the incidents. However, SAS has not disclosed what consequences the two employees may face as a result of the events.
