Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has ordered 45 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft with options for 10 more, marking its largest aircraft order since 1996. Valued at approximately $4 billion, this deal is a major step in SAS’s fleet renewal strategy, focused on enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and regional connectivity, especially through its Copenhagen hub.
Deliveries will begin in late 2027 and continue over four years. The E195-E2 aircraft will improve SAS’s operational flexibility, lower trip costs, and allow for increased flight frequencies across Scandinavia and Europe.
SAS CEO Anko van der Werff praised the aircraft’s fuel efficiency, comfort, and lower emissions, calling the investment “a defining moment” for the airline’s future. The E195-E2, powered by Pratt & Whitney’s PW1900G engines, offers 29% better fuel efficiency and a 62% lower noise footprint compared to older jets.
The E2 has already been tested with 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and is on track for full SAF certification, aligning with SAS’s climate goals.
The order, supported by Skyworks Holding, reinforces SAS’s position as a sustainability leader and comes as the airline ranks #1 globally for on-time performance in April and May 2025 (Cirium).
