An SAS Airbus A320neo, registered EI-SCE, operating flight SK528 from London Heathrow to Stockholm Arlanda, made a precautionary landing at Billund Airport on Friday evening, 25 September, after a smell resembling smoke was detected in the cabin. The aircraft landed normally, according to SAS and local police.
Emergency services were called to the airport at 20:57 under a “Standby 2” alert. Police said no visible smoke had been observed on board. Passengers left the aircraft after landing, and firefighters entered to inspect it.
SAS said diverting was standard procedure in the circumstances. The airline arranged for passengers to travel onwards by bus to Copenhagen late on Friday; their subsequent travel arrangements were not yet clear.
The cause of the smell remains under investigation.
