A flight attendant working for Scandinavian Airlines has been convicted after attempting to begin duty while under the influence of alcohol at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Police boarded the aircraft following its arrival in February and carried out a routine check, during which the crew member tested positive in a breathalyser. She admitted to drinking the night before at a hotel birthday party, stating she had consumed around three glasses of wine and failed to account for the time before her shift.
In questioning, she fully confessed, calling her actions “very stupid” and acknowledging it as a serious mistake.
A Swedish court found her guilty of drunkenness while performing safety-critical aviation duties, emphasising that she had shown disregard for flight safety by starting work despite knowing she may still be under the influence. She was sentenced to pay SEK 4,000 (EUR 367) in fines.
