SAS cancels Nice–Stockholm flight after crew member declared unfit to fly

Share

SAS Scandinavian Airlines cancelled scheduled flight SK1828 from Nice to Stockholm (SAS Connect Airbus A320neo registered EI-SIG) after one of the crew members was deemed unfit to operate, resulting in the aircraft lacking a full qualified crew.

The flight, which was due to depart at 15:40 and arrive in Stockholm a little over three hours later, was halted shortly before boarding. According to SAS, the decision was made because regulatory requirements for minimum crew composition could not be met once the crew member was removed from duty.

Passengers were initially directed back to the terminal while the situation was assessed. The airline later confirmed that all travellers were rebooked onto alternative flights, with some departing the same day and others scheduled for the following day.

SAS did not disclose the reason why the crew member was declared unfit to fly, citing no further details beyond the operational disruption. The incident prompted visible confusion among passengers, one of whom described the situation as “strange” and said it felt uncomfortable that the issue involved an airline employee.

While rare, such cancellations typically occur when crew fitness issues—medical, regulatory, or operational—reduce staffing below the legally required threshold for a flight to proceed safely.
