De Havilland Canada has marked a major aviation milestone with the delivery of its 1,000th DHC-6 Twin Otter, alongside the 999th aircraft, to SATENA.
The achievement highlights the enduring success of the Twin Otter, a utility aircraft renowned for its short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities and ability to operate in remote and challenging environments. Originally designed to serve Canada’s northern regions, the aircraft has since become a global workhorse, supporting regional connectivity, humanitarian missions, and economic development.
For SATENA, the new aircraft strengthens its mission to connect underserved communities across Colombia’s diverse and difficult terrain, including mountainous, jungle, and coastal regions. The delivery also deepens the partnership between the airline and De Havilland Canada, bringing SATENA’s fleet of the manufacturer’s aircraft to four.
More broadly, the 1,000-aircraft milestone underscores the Twin Otter programme’s continuous relevance over six decades, cementing its status as one of the most versatile and reliable aircraft in regional aviation worldwide.
