A Ryanair UK Boeing 737-800 (reg. G-RUKN) preparing to operate flight RK3446 from Palma de Mallorca to Manchester on Friday night, 3 July, was evacuated just after midnight due to a false fire alarm on board.
Passengers were forced to exit the aircraft over the wing or via inflatable slides, resulting in 18 injuries, including sprains and bruises. Six people were taken to the hospital for more serious injuries, like a broken leg, while others were treated at the scene.
Ryanair confirmed there was no actual fire and stated that a replacement flight (Boeing 737-800 reg. EI-DHA ferried from Naples) departed the following morning (Saturday, 4 July) and arrived at destination with a delay of 8 hours.
Airport operations were not affected.
