Ryanair announced it will end all flights to Maastricht Aachen Airport from 26 October 2025, citing steep increases in airport fees and Dutch aviation taxes.
The airline criticised Maastricht for becoming one of Europe’s most expensive airports and blamed the Dutch government’s “eco tax,” which has risen by 275% since 2021 to nearly €30 per passenger.
As a result, Ryanair will cut 150,000 annual seats and 5 routes, shifting capacity to countries like Sweden, Italy, and Poland, where airport charges are lower. Ryanair claims Maastricht’s high costs are hindering post-COVID-19 recovery, with traffic still at just 50% of pre-pandemic levels.
