Ryanair flight makes emergency landing in Palma after false fire alert

Share

Ryanair flight FR2051 from Madrid made an emergency landing at Palma de Mallorca Airport after reporting a possible onboard fire.

Air traffic control prioritised the aircraft’s approach, holding other flights and shortening its landing sequence. The Boeing 737-800 registered EI-DYA landed safely on runway 06L without incident.

Following inspection by airport fire services and authorities, no fire was found. The alert was traced to a malfunction in the aircraft’s fire detection system. The aircraft is still at Palma at the time of writing.

Operations at the airport were briefly adjusted during the incident, but returned to normal shortly afterwards once safety checks were completed and the runway was cleared.
