Ryanair flight FR111 from Palma de Mallorca to Berlin (operated by Lauda Europe Airbus A320 registered 9H-LOB) was forced to make an emergency landing in Marseille on the evening of June 23 after smoke reportedly developed on board. Several passengers, particularly in the front of the cabin, experienced respiratory irritation, according to eyewitness accounts reported by Tagesspiegel.

The flight was already delayed due to a late aircraft swap, departing nearly two hours late at 17:20 aboard a substitute Lauda plane. Shortly after takeoff, the crew detected the smoke and requested an emergency landing. Upon arrival in Marseille, the aircraft was surrounded by emergency vehicles and inspected for about 20 minutes.

With the original plane grounded, passengers were transferred to a replacement aircraft, a Ryanair Boeing 737-800 registered EI-DCZ, which departed just before 21:00 and landed in Berlin at 22:42—over four hours behind schedule. Ryanair has not yet confirmed the source of the smoke.
