Ryanair cuts three French airports over ‘harmful’ air tax

Share

Ryanair will withdraw from Brive, Bergerac, and Strasbourg airports this winter, citing a 180% increase in France’s air ticket tax. The Solidarity Tax rose from €2.63 to €7.40 per passenger in March 2025. Ryanair had already exited Vatry in the spring.

Calling the hike “astronomical” and “harmful,” Ryanair says the move will result in the loss of 25 routes and 750,000 seats, reducing its French winter capacity by 13%. The airline warns of a negative impact on regional tourism, connectivity, and employment.

Unless France reverses the tax, Ryanair says it will redirect investment to Sweden, Hungary, and Italy. If scrapped, however, the airline promises $2.5 billion in investment, 25 new aircraft, and 750 new jobs in France.
