On 1 March, a Laudamotion Airbus A320 (OE-LOA) and operating flight OE327 from London Stansted to Vienna aborted its take-off roll after en engine failure. Passengers could witness a loud bang. An emergency evacuation was immediately initiated. The aircraft, however, blocked Standsted’s runway hence other aircraft where forced to hold or divert to nearby airports.

During the evacuation, eight passengers got injured. On the incident, Laudomotion said: “The crew of OE flight from Stansted to Vienna decided to abort the take off due to engine issues and to disembark the passengers on the runway as a precautionary measure. Passengers were transferred to the terminal by bus and will be reaccommodated onto a replacement flight.

Around 22:40 (UTC) the aircraft was removed from the runway and air traffic resumed at the London airport. “Our runway has now re-opened and is fully operational. We are extremely sorry for the disruption caused by the incident, but our first priority is always the safety of passengers and staff,” the airport tweeted.

The British Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is sending a team to Stansted Airport to investigate the aircraft incident.
