Today, 10 June 2025, Ryanair announced a major investment in its fleet operations with the purchase of 30 new CFM LEAP-1B spare engines, valued at a list price of $500 million. The engines, scheduled for delivery over the next two years, are set to bolster the operational reliability of low-cost Irish-based Ryanair’s growing Boeing 737 fleet.
These latest-generation, fuel-efficient engines will support Ryanair’s current fleet of 210 Boeing 737 “Gamechanger” aircraft and its future Boeing 737 MAX-10 aircraft, which are expected to begin arriving in 2027. The addition increases Ryanair’s spare engine pool to more than 120 units, a move that significantly enhances the airline’s operational resilience as it continues to expand.
Ryanair has ambitious growth targets, aiming to operate a fleet of 800 Boeing 737 aircraft by 2034—all powered by CFM engines—as it targets 300 million passengers annually.
Commenting on the deal, Ryanair Group CEO Michael O’Leary said: “We are pleased to continue to develop our longstanding partnership with CFM (Safran & GE Aerospace). Today’s purchase of 30 new LEAP-1B spare engines is a significant $ 500 million commitment to improve the operational resilience of our Group airlines. These latest technology CFM engines reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat by up to 20% when installed on our B737 MAX fleet, which will further widen Ryanair’s cost leadership over competitor airlines in Europe.”
CFM President and CEO Gaël Méheust added: “This new agreement is another milestone in the long and successful partnership we have built with Ryanair. We look forward to continuing to support Ryanair’s significant growth by providing them with industry-leading reliability and utilisation standards.”
