Ryanair calls on the Dutch government to break up the Schiphol monopoly, reduces flights at Eindhoven

Share

Ryanair has urged today to discontinue the Schiphol monopoly in the Netherlands as it has been forced to remove routes because there are no slots available for further growth at Schiphol-controlled airports Eindhoven and Lelystad.

Ryanair has not been granted slots in Schiphol, making it impossible to add low tariff routes and traffic, furthermore Schiphol has delayed the opening of Lelystad from 2018 to 2019. A proposed limit of 10,000 slots a year at Lelystad or the equivalent of 13 flights per day or less than one flight per hour is very inefficient.

As a result of these restrictions in Eindhoven, Ryanair is forced to:

  • cancel 3 routes from Eindhoven to Aarhus, Milan Mxp and Trapani,
  • move 3 other Eindhoven routes (to Oradea, Rabat and Tangier) to  nearby Düsseldorf Weeze,
  • reduce frequencies on 6 other Eindhoven routes,  decreaseing Eindhoven traffic by 14% from 2.9 million to 2.5 million customers p.a.

Ryanair calls on the Dutch government to break up the Schiphol monopoly, which artificially limits the capacity of Schiphol, Eindhoven and Lelystad to protect Dutch airlines, KLM and Transavia.
