On 11 August, a Buzz flight (FR9962) from Sofia to London Stansted was diverted from its usual route and escorted by two German fighter jets after a security threat was reported.
Mid-flight, Czech authorities denied the Boeing 737-800 (registered SP-RNH) entry into their airspace following a call to Bulgaria’s emergency hotline claiming a Palestinian passenger intended to commit an attack. The report came from a Bulgarian man whose ex-wife and daughters were on board.
Border Police later confirmed no such passenger existed, and the threat was false. The aircraft was rerouted through Austria and Germany before landing at Stansted on time without incident.
