RwandAir plans New York flights via Accra by Airbus A330neo

Share

RwandAir plans to fly from Kigali to New York as of June 2019, via Accra (Ghana). The airline is still waiting for traffic rights from the competent aviation authorities but does not expect any problems.

RwandAir ordered two Airbus A330-900s (initially intended for Air Berlin) earlier this year, with the aim to start routes to the U.S. These aircraft have sufficient range to fly to New York from Kigali in one go, but the flights are expected to become more profitable with the additional passengers from Ghana and the surrounding area. However, by making a stopover in Ghana, RwandAir will be competing directly with Delta Air Lines, which flies four times a week from New York JFK to Accra with a Boeing 767.

RwandAir has not yet know decided whether to fly to New York JFK or to Newark Liberty Airport (EWR). That depends mainly on the availability of slots.
