Royal Air Maroc has temporarily suspended several routes to Europe and Africa, including flights between Brussels and Marrakech, citing soaring kerosene prices linked to tensions in the Middle East and weaker demand on some services.
The Moroccan carrier said the sharp increase in aviation fuel costs, combined with slowing passenger demand on certain routes, has forced it to adjust its international network. The airline indicated that the disruptions are intended to be temporary and that services will gradually resume once operational and economic conditions improve.
In addition to Brussels, RAM is suspending routes from Marrakech to Marseille, Lyon and Bordeaux. Flights from Tangier to Barcelona and Malaga are also affected.
Several African routes from Casablanca have likewise been suspended, including services to Bangui, Brazzaville, Kinshasa, Douala, Yaoundé and Libreville.
The airline said the increase in fuel prices is tied to the conflict in the Middle East and the disruption of supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for aviation fuel destined for Europe. The situation has already prompted several airlines, particularly low-cost carriers, to reduce or cancel flights.
Despite the current disruptions, Royal Air Maroc continues to pursue a long-term expansion strategy launched in 2023, aiming to grow its fleet from around 50 aircraft today to 200 by 2037.
