Riyadh Air has formally launched its cargo business under the brand Riyadh Cargo, establishing air freight as a core pillar of the airline’s commercial strategy and a key enabler of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 logistics ambitions.
Riyadh Cargo will initially leverage belly-hold capacity across Riyadh Air’s modern wide-body fleet, with more than 120 aircraft on order, allowing the cargo operation to scale in parallel with the airline’s expanding passenger network. Anchored at Riyadh, the cargo business is being developed through a phased and integrated approach designed for long-term growth, reliability and operational maturity.
Having already commenced live operations as part of Riyadh Air’s “Pathway to Perfect” programme, Riyadh Cargo has demonstrated early momentum on the Riyadh–London Heathrow route. It has successfully handled a broad range of commodities, including garments, textiles, fresh flowers, seafood, tea and coffee, highlighting its capability to manage time-sensitive, perishable and high-value shipments.
Digitalisation is central to the cargo strategy. Riyadh Cargo has embedded dedicated cargo management systems, centralised airwaybill control and enhanced data visibility to improve transparency and decision-making. The operation is supported by CHAMP’s CargoSpot Neo end-to-end digital platform and by digitally tracked unit load devices (ULDs in partnership with Unilode), enabling real-time monitoring, asset optimisation and more sustainable operations.
Ground handling and hub management are delivered through SATS Saudi Arabia Company at key gateways, including Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah, supported by modern facilities, specialised handling zones and centralised oversight to ensure smooth cargo flows and connectivity.
As Riyadh Air builds towards a network of more than 100 destinations by 2030 and a fleet exceeding 180 aircraft, Riyadh Cargo is positioned as a strategic growth driver. The airline expects its overall operations to contribute around USD 20 billion to Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP and support more than 200,000 jobs, reinforcing Riyadh’s role as a leading global aviation and logistics hub.
