During U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Qatar, Qatar Airways signed a deal for 160 Boeing aircraft with options for 50 more, a move Trump claimed was worth over $200 billion and described as the largest jet order in Boeing’s history.
The agreement was signed in Doha in the presence of Trump, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, and Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
The deal follows Trump’s earlier commercial agreements with Saudi Arabia and marks the second leg of his Gulf tour. While Trump emphasised the size of the deal, key details were only disclosed later. The order includes 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 Boeing 777-9s with options for 50 more 787 and 777X aircraft.
The order will support nearly 400,000 jobs in the U.S. “We are deeply honored that Qatar Airways has placed this record-breaking order with Boeing, one that solidifies their future fleet with our market-leading widebody airplane family at its centre,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Qatar Airways has also signed an agreement with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines, including 60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines, with additional options and spares, to power its next-generation Boeing 777-9 and Boeing 787 aircraft – the largest widebody engine purchase in the history of GE Aerospace.
