On 2 June, a QantasLink Boeing 717 (registered VH-NXD) and operated by National Jet Systems for Qantas operated domestic flight QF1596 between Melbourne and Newcastle, Australia. Just after take-off, however, the aircraft suffered a right hand engine failure.
The pilots decided to head back to Melbourne and after some twists and turns, the aircraft safely landed back at the airport of departure.
