Qantas A380 flight QF2 from London to Sydney via Singapore (registration VH-OQB) was forced to make an emergency landing in Baku (GYD), Azerbaijan, after a female passenger in her 60s suffered a serious cardiac event mid-flight. The woman was stabilised by three Australian doctors on board and transported to a local hospital.
Due to the diversion and crew reaching duty limits, passengers, mostly Australians, were told they would stay overnight in Baku. Qantas is arranging hotel accommodations and securing visas for around 400 passengers, with a replacement aircraft expected to continue the journey to Singapore on Tuesday.
Qantas apologised for the disruption, stating that safety and passenger care remain top priorities.
