Maiden flight for the first Qantas Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

Share

Qantas’ first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner VH-ZNA has performed its very first flight.

The aircraft took off from Everett Paine Field (PAE) in Washington as test flight BOE269 on Thursday morning local time and landed at Moses Lake Grand County International Airport (MWH) after a 90-minute flight.

The Australian carrier expects to welcome Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner VH-ZNA on Australian soil on the early morning of 20 October 2017.

In order to get familiarised with this new type, the airline will deploy the Dreamliner only on its domestic network. In December 2017 the Dreamliner will begin to operate on the Melbourne-Los Angeles route. As from March 2018 the Dreamliner will be deployed on the airline’s new nonstop Perth-London flight. For more info on this ultra long-haul see our previous article Boeing explains how Qantas will launch the longest Dreamliner flight ever.

Qantas has a total of eight Dreamliners on order. Four of them will be based in Brisbane (see Qantas to base four Dreamliners in Brisbane).

In June 2017 the Australian carrier had announced the names that it will give to each of the eight Dreamliners (see Qantas reveals Dreamliner fleet names).
