Pegasus Airlines has completed its acquisition of Czech Airlines and the Smartwings Group after receiving all required regulatory approvals and meeting the transaction’s closing conditions, the Turkish carrier announced on 1 October.
The acquisition strengthens Pegasus’ presence in Central and Eastern Europe, combining its low-cost network with Smartwings’ established leisure business and tour operator partnerships. According to Pegasus, the combined fleet comprises more than 175 aircraft, with firm orders for a further 140.
Smartwings will retain its established brand and continue its day-to-day operations, customer relationships and services. The group includes airlines in the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
Pegasus serves 161 destinations across 57 countries, while Smartwings’ network covers 80 destinations in 20 countries. The companies say the combination will support further growth and improve their competitiveness.
Pegasus CEO Güliz Öztürk said the acquisition would allow the airlines to expand and offer passengers more choice. Smartwings co-founder Ji?í Šimán? described Pegasus as the right partner to build on the Czech group’s existing strengths.
The announcement did not disclose the final transaction value or set out specific network changes following completion.
