On 20 July, a PIA Pakistan International Airlines ATR-42-500 (AP-BHP) operated domestic flight PK605 between Islamabad and Gilgit, Pakistan. During landing, however, the aircraft overran the end of the runway and skidded on its right hand side past the runway. The right main gear collapsed. Nobody of the 53 passengers and crew members got injured during the mishap, the aircraft sustained substantial damage to right main gear, right wing and right engine.
The airline reported the crew “skillfully regained control of the aircraft after the ATR skidded off the paved surface of the runway.” The aviation authorities have launched an inquiry.
