Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY1792 from Oslo Gardermoen to Alicante was forced to make an emergency landing at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Saturday afternoon after crew members detected a strange smell in the cabin.
The Boeing 737-800 registered LN-ENO landed safely at around 17:00, a spokesperson for Norwegian confirmed to Norwegian broadcaster NRK.
“We made an emergency landing in Amsterdam because the pilots and cabin crew detected an unknown smell on board. Safety comes first, and such cases should always be investigated,” said Norwegian press officer Silje Glorvigen.
The airline has arranged a replacement flight from Oslo to Amsterdam on Saturday evening to transport affected passengers onward to Alicante.
The source of the smell remains unknown. Norwegian says a full investigation will be carried out.
