Norse Atlantic Airways has announced the early termination of its ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance) agreement with IndiGo, with the partnership ending on 1 November 2026. The decision, reached by mutual agreement, follows ongoing geopolitical challenges that have made long-haul operations between India and Europe less commercially viable.
The airline cited persistently high fuel prices, Middle East airspace disruptions and longer flight routings as the main reasons behind the move. One aircraft had already been scheduled for return at the end of August after IndiGo discontinued its Manchester service, while the remaining five aircraft will now also be returned.
The redelivery of all six Boeing 787 Dreamliners significantly increases Norse Atlantic’s operational flexibility. The carrier is already in discussions with several airlines about new ACMI opportunities for up to five aircraft, while planning to deploy part of the returning fleet on its own network during the winter season. Additional capacity is expected on profitable transatlantic routes, including services from Europe to Orlando and New York.
At the same time, Norse Atlantic has provided a major strategic update. Following strong interest from potential investors and industry partners, the company’s board has decided to launch a formal strategic review process that could lead to a sale, merger or strategic partnership.
Chief Executive Officer Eivind Roald said the return of the six aircraft creates new strategic opportunities, allowing the airline to respond to strong demand for fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft while expanding its own network where profitable. The company says its primary objective is to improve profitability and create long-term value for shareholders.
