Boeing has announced that MSC Air Cargo has ordered five 777-8 Freighters, marking the cargo airline’s first commitment to Boeing’s next-generation freighter. The order, previously listed as unidentified in Boeing’s order book, was announced at the Farnborough Airshow.
The new aircraft will complement MSC Air Cargo’s existing fleet of 777 Freighters and support the carrier’s long-term growth strategy. According to the airline, the 777-8 Freighter was selected for its combination of greater efficiency, long range and increased payload capacity, while also helping reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
The 777-8 Freighter, part of the 777X family, is designed to offer the highest payload and the lowest fuel burn, emissions and operating costs per tonne in its class. Boeing expects the type to play a key role in meeting growing demand for air cargo, driven largely by the continued expansion of e-commerce.
With this latest commitment, Boeing has now secured more than 80 orders for the 777-8 Freighter. MSC Air Cargo becomes the third European cargo airline to order the aircraft.
