Mexicana takes delivery of first Embraer E2 jet, marking major fleet modernisation milestone

Embraer has delivered the first of 20 next-generation E2 jets to Mexicana, signalling a key step in the state-owned Mexican carrier’s fleet renewal strategy. The E195-E2 aircraft departed Embraer’s São José dos Campos facility this morning bound for Mexico, inaugurating a broader order that includes 10 E190-E2s and 10 E195-E2s.

Announced in 2024, the deal marks a significant investment by Mexicana to modernise its domestic and regional operations with more efficient, environmentally conscious aircraft.

“This delivery marks a new chapter for Mexicana,” said CEO Leobardo Bojórquez. “The E2’s performance, economics, and passenger appeal make it the perfect aircraft to support our growth strategy. We are excited to bring this new level of service and efficiency to our customers.”

Configured in a single-class layout with no middle seats, the E195-E2 offers a modern cabin environment tailored to short- and medium-haul travel. Powered by new-generation Pratt & Whitney engines and featuring enhanced aerodynamics, the aircraft delivers a 29% reduction in fuel burn compared to its predecessor, contributing to both cost savings and reduced emissions.

“The E2 is the most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft in the world, and it’s ideally suited to Mexicana’s network and sustainability goals,” said Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. “We are proud to support Mexicana’s mission to connect more communities across Mexico with greater efficiency and comfort.”

The E2 family is also known for its quiet operations and full fly-by-wire technology, which improves safety while lowering pilot workload. Mexicana’s new fleet will be backed by Embraer’s global Services & Support division, ensuring strong operational reliability from the outset.

With this delivery, Embraer further strengthens its footprint in Latin America, where demand for efficient regional jets continues to rise amid evolving connectivity needs.
