Mango flight JE147 was forced to return to Johannesburg International Airport, South Africa after the left hand engine was hit by a bird. The Boeing 737-800 (ZS-SJH) departed at 14:45 LT and returned safely about 30 minutes later. Sergio Davids, a passenger took some pictures of the damage, the engine cowling is severely hit. On Twitter he shared the following:
Just experienced a bird strike shortly after takeoff from OR Tambo. You can spot the damage to the Mango airbus (Note from redaction: should be Boeing) engine. Bird strike on my Mango airlines flight from Jozi. Could smell the smoke in the cabin. Fortunately, we were routed back to OR Tambo.
